Axel Project is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the fundamental principle that a productive, happy life begins with bikes. Our mission is to introduce and nurture a lifelong passion for cycling to children and their families. While our mission is broad, our current project, RideTime is aimed at providing bicycles, gear, instruction, and educational materials to schools so they can integrate riding and exercise into their Pre-K and Kindergarten curriculum or after school program. Learning and instilling these basic skills early will get them riding on two wheels—with their friends, their family and forever.
Jen is Axel’s Mom and the co-founder of the Axel Project. For the past 15 years she has worked in learning development for major corporations. She is an avid cyclist and has enjoyed sharing that passion with her sons and other young children. Jen writes about this passion on her blog pedaladventures.com.
Randy is Axel’s Dad. His love of bikes and racing started when he was 15 years old. He’s been racing on and off since then. He also spent close to 20 years working in the bike industry, owning a shop in Ridgway, CO for 6 of those years. By far one of the most rewarding things he has done was getting a kids mountain biking program up and running in Ridgway with his wife Jen. They have always passed their love of bikes to their boys and to be able to introduce new kids to our wonderful sport is incredible. They hope to continue this with the Axel Project in their Son’s memory because he LOVED his bike, it brought him so much joy and a sense of independence.
